Square One: What’s the Point?
So here we go - this is my third attempt at a blog this year. I’ve been to all the training sessions, hired the consultant, spent countless hours reading the real estate tomato and copyblogger and every-other article in the CAR magazine (California Association of Realtors - not Car and Drive, but I’ve read those too). Blogging is all the rage, especially in real estate, and I’m determined to jump on this train no matter how many times I fall off in the process.
I don’t know that I’ve actually figured out how this blog thing is
going to work, but I’ve definitely formed an opinion, and it’s got to be as valid as anyone else’s.
The blog is about allowing my readers to get to know me. I think I can handle that. I can write frequently about myself and my life and my thoughts on the world. And who knows, I may become an entertaining writer and develop a following. Hey, it could happen.
The blog is about business development. This is the hard part. I’m supposed to write about real estate and the tri-valley and demonstrate my expertise, all the while working-in my keywords so that I come up in Google searches. Seems so phony…
However, seeing as a huge percentage of my life is spent on work, this site should develop with significant real estate related content over time. If I share my experiences, it will demonstrate my strengths and accomplishments and will focus on the areas and things that I know most about. And that may be good for business.
The blog is about social networking. Now this is the fun part. Rather than trying to keep up with everyone through periodic e-mails, I can continue to explore Facebook and LinkedIn and other social networking sites, and as I connect with old and new friends, point them back to my site where they can either catch-up or get to know me.
The blog is about introspection. (That word didn’t show up with a red underline, so I don’t think I just made it up.) I promise not to get too personal, but there’s a sense in which this is a journal of sorts, and I know there’s a healthy aspect to putting your thoughts down on paper (or in cyberspace - or whatever).
So I hope you’ll browse some of the posts here. I hope you get my sense of humor. I hope you learn something about me. I hope the Rockies get back to the World Series. I hope you want to do business with me. And I hope your day is a little better for having checked-in.
